The body of an Indian man who died from heat exhaustion during power cuts in Sharjah is stuck in a mortuary nearly two weeks after his death.Thodengalli Shivaiah, 38, was killed last month during a blackout that lasted for days. However, his friends and relatives are struggling to find the money to repatriate his body. “It costs more than dhs3,000 to send the body to India. It is difficult for us to arrange so much money,” said Prasad, a relative.Shivaiah came to the UAE two years ago to work for a construction firm. But he lost his job due to cutbacks soon after and had been scraping together a living collecting cardboard boxes. He had a wife and two children back in India. But a spokesperson for the Sharjah Indian Association said they will try to help with the repatriation after being contacted by 7DAYS.“The body can be sent free of cost to India. We will assist the workers,” said the spokesperson.Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has attributed the power cut to a glitch with a gas pipeline that feeds its main power station.
